Many people think that therapy is just sitting in a chair (or laying on a couch), telling a counselor your every thought as they sit and nod their head - occasionally asking you "And how does that make you feel."
Truth is, we use proven techniques and frameworks to help move you from feeling lost and broken to living a life of joy again.
Two of those techniques include:
Grief Therapy
Part of helping someone who is in the midst of betrayal is to allow them a safe place to grieve. This is a critical component to the healing process.
When you don't allow yourself to grieve, you find yourself cycling through anger and sadness which leads to feelings of hopelessness.
We help you through the grieving process so you can put te pieces back together and make sense of life again.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART):
When a traumatic even occurs - like finding out about an affair - your brain makes connections between the emotions of the trauma and your body.
For example...
Every time you drive by a hotel, you are sent into a state of anxiety, thinking of how your spouse was meeting their lover behind your back.
ART works to sever those connections so that the triggers that haunted you no longer have the same debilitating effect.
Using unique visualization techniques and how the body is affected by distressing images or memories, ART enhances rapid eye movements similar to eye movements during dreaming.
Our trained ART therapists can help deal with those distressing images and memories related to betrayal trauma so that it no longer triggers strong physical and emotional reactions. Which is vital to the healing process.
The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event - like an affair - the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, however, healing begins.
Emotional freedom technique (EFT), is a therapy, developed by Gary Craig, used in the treatment of anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

LPC, CSAT – Clinical Director
When life gets overwhelming what do you do? For most people, they try to ‘work through it’ or ‘wait it out’. Sometimes that works but for most, it doesn’t. I want you to know I understand those feelings of being stuck, confused, and discouraged. I was once there myself. It was through my own journey in therapy I was able to see more clearly, to finally come to terms with my past and the way I saw myself/others - and to start taking initiative to truly live life rather than just going through it. Therapy gave me the skills. My mission is to do the same for you. I believe understanding my client’s pain and their story are cornerstones to building a therapeutic relationship of trust and collaboration. I use my experience and training to show you a new way of responding rather than reacting. If you struggle with anxiety, depression, sex/porn addiction, stress management, anger, self-esteem issues, boundaries, childhood trauma, etc., I would love to work with you. I am also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) who can help those struggling with porn addiction and other sexually compulsive sexual behaviors. I have training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), childhood trauma, mindfulness, EFT tapping, DBT, and EMDR. I look forward to walking by your side!

Lauren Guenther
LPC
My name is Lauren Guenther and I’ve worked as a therapist since 2013. I enjoy working one on one with clients and have seen countless individuals make huge strides in their lives through the power of the therapeutic relationship. Even if the focus of counseling is primarily around relationship issues, one person changing the way they show up in a relationship or marriage can lead to huge shifts in the couple’s interactions. I have a passion for walking alongside clients during times of brokenness and grief, to help process their losses and gain strength to walk the path of mourning and acceptance. I also have a passion for helping betrayed partners navigate the ups and downs of living with someone struggling with sexual addiction. I believe the therapy room should be a safe place where clients can authentically share who they are and how they feel to find healing and strength to face life’s most difficult challenges. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two kids or curling up with a good book. We love being outside, going on bike rides and camping when the weather is nice.

LPC, LMFT Associate (Supervised by Susan Henderson, MEd, LPC-S, LMFT-S)
I am dually licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, anger management or past traumas that are interfering with your present, I can help you explore them in a safe supportive environment that will promote healing and give you new skills to help you live life in a happier, healthier way. I enjoy partnering with my clients to help them better understand themselves and recognize their own strengths and talents. After spending the first 20 years of my career in public service, I am particularly passionate about helping first responders struggling with the unique pressures their jobs place on them, their relationships, and their families. As a mother of two and stepmom to two, I also know how challenging family dynamics can be and how they impact our own self-care. I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), both highly effective therapies for treating among other things, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. When not working, you can find me out in the garden, sitting down with a good puzzle (Sudoku, KenKen, Nubrix), reading, or hanging out with my family and our 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Michelle Spence
An elective psychology class in high school is what initially fueled my interest in counseling and led me to pursue my chosen field as a therapist. I grew up in a chaotic home and I learned firsthand how our early experiences impact us as adults. I’ve also personally experienced the freedom that comes from tackling the past, and I recognize how integral counseling was in my own personal journey of healing and self-awareness. I have a passion working with clients who are ready to experience personal freedom from the pain of their past and whatever it is that is holding them back from living their best life whether that be anxiety, depression, loss, stress, something else. I am trained as an EMDR therapist which is a technique that helps clients heal from symptoms and emotional distress caused by memories of painful events. I’ve been married for almost three decades and I’m a mom to 3 adult children. In my “free” time, I enjoy Broadway, gardening, baking, and reading.

I’ve learned that once we learn to care for our own wants and needs, we’re also better able to support those around us. My experience includes working with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, loss and grief, trauma, codependency, and relationships. I studied psychology at Texas State University and obtained my master’s degree in counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. Bruce Thomas
Masters Level Intern (Supervised by Sam John, LPC)
I have spent the last six years helping individuals recover from sexual addiction and related trauma. I sincerely believe that change is possible for every individual and that there are evidence-based, proven ways to overcome even problems that seem to have no solutions. With a combination of empathy, encouragement, and a keen listening ear, I want to help each of my clients find a confidential, safe space to breathe, regather themselves, and create new solutions to ongoing obstacles. I am steadfast in my desire to see people find help and wholeness, and I believe in true healing for the brokenhearted and true freedom for those who feel trapped in "the crazy cycle." I’ve spent most of my adult life working with trauma and abuse victims and understand how these tragedies can impact all aspects of our lives and relationships. Depending on my client’s needs, I encourage the combination of individual therapy and group recovery therapy. My wife and I have been married for over two decades and are the proud parents of four sons. Having overcome enormous challenges of my own, I know first-hand how important it is to find the right professional to help you. I am a graduate of The University of Georgia and hold a master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife, SEC football, and being the loudest fan at my son’s sporting events.
